Happy Father's Day!
Although it was celebrated as early as 1908, Father's Day wasn't a nationally observed holiday with a set date until 1972. According to the History Channel, it became a national holiday under President Coolidge (1924), a day of national observance under President Nixon (1972), and President Johnson assigned it to the third Sunday in June (1966).
Roses (red for the living and white for the deceased) are the official flower of Father's Day.
In addition to historical information, the History Channel's Father's Day page includes: gift ideas, a list of TV dads, photos, statistics, and video clips.
